Many gearheads believe that the height of Packard’s success was during the late 1920s and ended around the mid-1930s. During that time, Packard built a number of outstanding models that were at the top of their game. Their fame reached out across the globe, the rich and famous became their regular patrons. Packard put all of their efforts in designing their cars which are not surprising that they are known to be excellently well-built cars.
Another factor that contributed to Packard’s success is their wide range of body styles, chassis, and engine options that could be personally selected by each costumer to suit their specific needs. The only limiting factor is the size of the customer’s wallet. For those who have no problem with the expenses, they could order a chassis and have it mounted with a personalized body built by any coachbuilders of their choice. It’s no wonder that the Packard vehicles are known for being one of the finest automobiles in history.
In 1928, the Packard 443 which was part of their Fourth Series was one of the finest automobiles of its time. It had a massive 143” wheelbase which was available on a number of body styles, it was hard to miss as it cruises through the streets. It was powered by a 383 cubic inched straight-eight engine that was relatively silent and produced a reliable 109 horsepower. Like all of Packard’s cars, the 443 was an easy car to handle because of its smooth transmission, reliable brakes, and exceptional handling. It was the favorite car of the elites all over the world.
This featured 1928 Packard 443 Eight Dual-Windshield Phaeton is a beautifully preserved example since it was restored sometime in its life. It runs excellently well and looks perfect. The elegant coachwork comes in a 2-tone finish of medium brown with a dark brown beltline. The dark orange disc wheels and black fenders beautifully accents the curves of the coachwork. The coachwork is beautifully well design and surely stands out. The trademark Packard disc wheels are covered with whitewall rubbers on all corners. It also has 2 spares mounted on each side. Even though it has a very long wheelbase, it looks very sporty especially when the canvas top is in place. The paint has a glossy finish and the body looks perfectly solid. All of the chrome and other brightwork are intact and have excellent shines. This 443 has some flaws but are very minimal and are easy to miss. A stainless steel stone guard covers the exposed Packard radiator shell. Other body features include the cowl lamps, side mirrors, and trunk rack.
The beauty of this 443 continues into the interior which is elegantly done in dark tan leather that goes really well with the exterior finish. Because this is a dual-windshield Phaeton, it has 2 windshields, the standard front windshield and another for the rear passengers. The wooden dashboard and door caps look great. The all of the gauges and instruments are functioning well. The interior looks incredible and completely comfortable, it’s no wonder why the elites are fascinated with these classic luxury cars.
This 1928 Packard 443 Eight Dual-Windshield Phaeton in its beauty and elegance is also a very reliable driver. All of the mechanical parts have been regularly maintained since it was restored. It is powered by a 383 ci straight 8 cylinder that starts without any problems. Driving this large classic is an excellent experience which is why it is a very popular cruiser among the classic car community. It has been recognized by the CCCA as a Full Classic which adds to its value as a collectible car. This Packard is in a show-car quality condition and a perfect addition to any collection of fine and luxurious automobiles.
