This Porsche 911S Targa is one of the 989 built in 1972 that comes with the rare and wanted Pastel Blue finish, and it is currently being sold by Carparc USA. The 1972 year model was the only one to have the side mounted oil door for a better weight distribution and overall handling. This Targa was originally shipped to the Honrath Porsche-Audi-VW dealership in Bingen, Germany on May 25, 1972. It was bought by Walter Schellhase from the Rhein area of Germany. Walter owned the 911 for around 4 years before delivering it back to the same dealer for a trade-in. On April 9, 1976, Dr. Rolf Wittek bought the car who owned it for 2 years before selling on August 31, 1978, to Nikolause Treis. In 1982, the Porsche was brought to the United States when it was bought by a PCA member and an autocross fan from Connecticut.
The 911 is still in its original condition was well taken cared off and driven regularly. In 1985 and 1990, it won the SCCA Solo II National Championships. The 911 was carefully maintained to keep it always ready for competition. The floor, the suspension pans, the battery boxes, and undercarriage are all in original condition without any rust. In 2001, the 911 was bought by a Porsche aficionado from California and owned in till present.
This is probably one of the rarest 1972 Porsche 911s Targa S that is fully loaded with options. As shown on its Certificate of Authenticity it comes with Bumper Horns, rare ‘Recaro’ Sport Seats, Leatherette Headrests, muffler skirt, halogen floodlights, an antenna with loudspeaker and noise suppression, rear fog lights, tinted glass, Pirelli tires, and 3-point seat belts.
When this 911s was bought in 1972, the Pastel Blue finish was no longer available and was specially ordered from Germany, which means that the Pastel Blue color option is extremely rare. The car was stripped to bare metal and glass and trims taken out for a professional repaint of the original Pastel Blue finish. The repaint was completely documented to support its authenticity.
This 911 is very original with matching numbers. The suspension, brakes, transmission and other mechanical parts have been completely serviced and reworked. It is a perfect turnkey driver.
The interior is mostly original and is in excellent condition with the very rare original sport Recaro seats which provide a very comfortable seating position. The door pockets, S steering wheel, and dash are original and in excellent condition as well. The interior looks perfect and no repairs are needed.
Over the years and passing through several owners, this mostly original 911 has been maintained extremely well. The original matching-numbers MFI engine is currently being rebuilt to RS specifications. When the engine is completed and tuned up, it will have 210bhp and Carparc USA will provide a full warranty.
