Everyone loves a big block engine under the hood of a great American muscle car. The heavy 396 cid V8 engine on the front will certainly take away some handling but it’s all worth it when you speed down the road on full throttle and hear the raw power of the big block, it is one of the greatest feelings that muscle car fans look forward to. This 1966 Chevelle SS is believed to be in running condition but according to its seller, it will need a bit of work to bring it back to its full potential. The seller noted that it is the type of car that you can slowly work on while using it as a regular driver. This 1966 Chevelle from Irvington, Alabama is currently listed for sale on eBay and is probably a great project car.
But before its next owner can use it as a regular driver, it’s better to give the engine bay a full service and replace all fluids and other consumables. The exterior and interior are alright but what’s really interesting is that 396 engine which needs to be preserved. It looks to be in good condition and really clean, it may have been recently rebuilt to be in such condition. The 396 V8 engine is connected to a 2-speed automatic transmission, if anyone is thinking of using it as a dragster then it’s probably better to swap it with a 3-speed transmission or better. Pumping out more power from the 396 won’t be a big problem as well, there are lots of affordable aftermarkets available for these big-blocks.
After some thorough cleaning and refurbishing the details, the interior will look great. The carpet and seats look great and will just need some vacuum. There’s nothing special going on the interior but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. Although the seller has not given any details if the interior is still original, it does seem that some are still the original parts.
The engine has already been tuned up and runs good, with some minor work it will be a reliable ride. The body looks good on the outside but there are some minor problems underneath. The first thing to do is to completely check on the body for rust and holes. If everything is just minor, they can easily be removed and weld in some metal sheets, a very minor and cheap repair work. If the damage is greater than expected, it will need more work but is still not that hard. The rust repair is not a very urgent issue, you just have to make sure they won’t spread anymore.
Overall, this Chevelle still has a lot of miles ahead of it and has a lot of potential to become a great ride, it’s up to the next owner how far it will go.
