Shelby fans are in for a treat – a unique and extensive Shelby collection is going to be up for auction at the Mecum Auction’s Spring Classic. The event will be at Indianapolis on May 17 to 21, 2016. The
The owner of the collection, Joe McMurrey, is a big Carroll Shelby enthusiast. He has owned the cars for more than ten years. His Shelby collection is one of the most extensive ones that a car enthusiast will ever see. McMurrey believes that Shelby cars as the model which made American race cars well-known in the world racing scene.
In the Mecum Auction, McMurrey will put a total of 17 cars up for sale. These cars tell a story — the tale of the involvement of Shelby cars in the racing and automotive world. When asked why he would want to sell his beloved collection, McMurrey said that he views car collectors as caretakers of the vintage beauties, and that these vehicles must be passed on to new owners who will take care of them as well. With that said, the buyers of his cars will be very lucky because his collection is at tip-top shape.
Here are some of the cars that will be put up for auction:
A unique 1965 Shelby GT350 will be up for grabs at the Mecum Auction. It was the 41st car that was built in the series.

Another car to watch out for is a 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 roadster. It has a mileage of only 20,000-miles and is one of just 350 units that were sold.

There are other Shelby and Shelby-related vehicles that will be auctioned off. A 1964 Griffith Series 200 and a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger Mk II roadster will be sold to car enthusiasts in the said event.

Another car to look out for is a Shelby GT350 with a Paxton Supercharger. It is a treat for all car lovers as it is a very unique model — there were only 35 of these units sold.

McMurrey is also selling his1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible, a 1970 Ford Boss 302 Kar Kraft Trans Am racer, and a 1999 Shelby Series 1 roadster.
McMurrey’s very extensive collection is not only limited to Shelby cars. He is also putting his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 split-window coupe up for auction. That vehicle is one of the 199 units built that year. Although a Shelby fan, McMurrey purchased that vehicle because he believes that it is as good as Shelby’s cars.
Although parting ways with his car collection is a bit bittersweet, McCurrey hopes that the buyers of his cars would also take good care of them. This collection will be up for auction on May 20.
