Gerald Willits was a plumber who passed away in August 2014 aged 76. Sounds normal so far. But this story was far from normal.

You see when he died, no-one noticed. He didn’t have many visitors, so it took days before someone realised something was up, as there was a terrible smell coming from his small one storey house in Buena Park. He was an eccentric that live in a small house that was infested with rats.

By the time officials discovered this classic case of hoarding, it was so bad that county workers had to cover their noses and mouths with masks.

When the public administrator’s officials went to visit the house they had a huge shock when they stepped into his yard. Inside the yard was a collection of 69 classic cars that were not covered up or protected from the weather. The cars were in pretty bad condition. The cars included a 1931 Ford Tudor, 1952 Chevrolet 6400, 1920’s Ford Model A, 1952 Bentley Type R & plenty of other classic cars.

As you can imagine all the cars were in pretty awful condition. The auction for all the 69 cars was carried out last month and the total price all the cars sold for was $196,000. Most of the cars were rust buckets and sold for just a few hundred bucks.

The money will be held by the public administrator’s office until a beneficiary can be found.

A good lesson can be learned here, look after your cars otherwise they will end up as rust buckets that have little or no real value. And by the time you realize it, might be too late.

Check out the specs of some of the most endearing finds in Willits’ estate.
